‘CNN’ was both difficult and an easy song to write. Difficult in the emotions that came along with trying to find the right words to honor/memorialize lost friends, but easy because of the motivation that comes with having the opportunity to honor their memory with music. This song was originally written for a friend who passed away several years ago named Zach Decker. Years had passed before I finally found the courage to attempt writing this song. While the pressure of the task is motivating it is equally daunting. I remember it taking several takes to record the hook because I couldn’t get through it without breaking down. This song helped show me how healing music really can be if you’re willing to put yourself all the way out there. I had no idea what I was going to do with this song until April 19 2019 I got the call that I had lost another close friend, David Short. David and Zach were like my brothers so it felt like a big piece of my childhood was going to disappear without David around. He is who helped me keep Zach’s memory alive. Who could help me keep these stories alive if the people who helped me create them are no longer around? When David passed, I saw an opportunity to maybe be able to help a grieving community of people who were missing someone and maybe didn’t know the best way to communicate that loss. This will forever be one of the most important things I ever created on a personal note. Hug your homies.
