I wrote this song in April of 2019 while living in a trailer on a hill in Los Angeles. I decided I was gonna go out west for a month and take as many meetings as I could with anyone who was willing to grab a coffee, drinks, anything. It’s expensive out west and funds were limited so I spent as much free time as I could recording. This song did not come easy.
Last December I went back to Cali to shoot the video and was struggling to find an affordable location. Most Airbnb’s in California will charge a minimum of $500 on top of the booking fee if you’re looking to shoot at a listing. I think our host added $150 on top of the booking fee and made us promise to take good care of her retro bungalow in the middle of the desert. It’s about 3 hours of driving to Yucca Valley from LA. I cracked the windshield on my rental, shot the mirror scene for the ‘Yea Yea’ video, and recorded OJ’s verse on ‘CBGB’ that night after we wrapped shooting.
